The recent triple Adelaide success (25/8) by Ambidexter reminds me that, like his siblings Skilled and Sidestep, he is desended from Gunsynd.
None of these is grey, but another SA sire in Barbados is, and also descends from Gunsynd. The problem is that Barbados’s granddam, Virage, was by another grey in Kenmare (Fr).
Whose grey gene did she inherit, and if both, is it possible to tell which she passed on?
There are quite a few greys in this line and I would love to think they come from Gunsynd.
Incidentally, the grey stallion Top Echelon (sire to four stakes winners including Group 1 Stradbroke winner River Lad) descends from Gunsynd’s full sister Swank.
