Letter of the Week

Girls, girls, girls

I have been involved in racing as a punter for more than 50 years. I’ve been buying Winning Post since the day it was first printed in the late 1980s.
So I’ve been around a long time and seen some amazing things in this great game but I never thought I’d see the day an entire program of racing featured female jockeys.
However, it’s happening at Carnarvon in Western Australia this Friday. There are seven races. Almost 60 horses accepted for the meeting and every one of them will be ridden by a woman.
Incredible.
Surely this is a first for a TAB meeting in Australia?

Reply: There was a similar meeting at Broome in WA recently, with one male rider — Paul Marks —competing.
