Off and on
Here’s a crazy story from Saturday, September 19 concerning the first two events from the Ayr races in Scotland.
The first two races, having initially been abandoned, were instead run later — at the conclusion of the scheduled meeting, after race seven. Because they were initially listed as being abandoned, the TAB refunded all bets.
However, on checking with the TAB, I found out that that didn’t apply to fixed-odds bets.
Having backed a particular runner in race one (which became the new race eight) both on the tote and at fixed odds, I found it strange to have my tote bet refunded while my fixed-odds bet wasn’t.
The horse was unplaced in the new race eight.
The fact that races one and two were listed as “abandoned” by the club (when they were really postponed) exposed a serious anomaly with the procedure.
Same horses, same barriers, same jockeys, same everything — only run at a different starting time.
It’s a strange one.
