When I heard the big spruik for Miss Wilson at Ballarat (22/10), who was odds-on despite rising in distance from 1400m to 2000m, I took the punt and tweeted Terry Bailey some hours before the race: “Nothing beats last-start winners more frequently than a rise in distance.”
I’m no genius, but in the six decades I’ve been racing it’s always been the same.
