Very sad
The world of sport and racing has lost a couple of great old contributors in the space of a few days, with the passing of Bob Hoysted (racing) and Tom Hafey (football).
And there was further great sadness for me when I read about the death of Lisa Chittick, from a couple of famous and wonderful racing families in New Zealand.
Lisa was just 44 and the wife of Waikato Stud principal Mark Chittick. She was also the daughter of Dave O’Sullivan, famous in Australia for his many successful raids here as a trainer.
Lisa’s brother, Lance O’Sullivan, is also known to most in Australia for he was a champion jockey for many years.
Lisa had a hands-on role in Waikato Stud and people tell me she was full of energy and ideas, was great fun to be around and loved the glitz and glamour of racing.
She was a fighter, too. She fought leukaemia for 14 months before it took her. She was in America at the time of her passing — there for treatment which she and everyone else hoped would extend her life. She passed away with Mark and her three children at her bedside.
