Too long, too late
Caulfield Guineas day is always a great day’s racing but I question some aspects of it.
Why does a 10-event card have to start as late as 1pm when 12 noon or thereabouts would seem to make more sense?
Why run the Caulfield Guineas as late as 5.40pm, a time when a lot of people would be preparing or having their evening meal?
A program lasting from 1pm to 6.15pm is far too long and too late-finishing, despite the high quality of the meeting.
Secondly, why run the Thousand Guineas seven days after the Flight and Manifold Stakes? Surely Caulfield Cup day, 14 days after these two races, would be much more suitable and would ensure a better field.
The Thousand Guineas was run on Caulfield Cup day years ago and it seemed a success. Why it was moved is a mystery to me.
