Spring won't be the same
Thank you so much for the 2014/15 Winning Post calendar.
With great respect, to Deborah McLean (9/8), you haven’t really taken notice of the detail in its contents!
As well as being very informative (and containing some wonderful pictures), it includes a fitting tribute to an Australian turf legend on the page for May 2015.
I speak, of course, about the late Mr Guy Walter.
I am sure that many racing devotees are still in shock at the passing away of this great trainer and man. I know I am.
I’m also sure that, like me, many punters routinely searched your Friday, Saturday or Sunday form guides for horses trained by Guy (often ridden by B. Shinn, K. O’Hara or S. Clipperton) to anchor their quinellas, their running doubles, or their quaddies.
For many of us, horses trained by Guy were often the only wager for the day. Importantly, if we didn’t receive a dividend for our outlay, we always got a run for our money.
It is going to be a difficult spring carnival for many punters without seeing the name Guy Walter in your form guides.
Nevertheless, we will still see horses that were trained by Guy, and this knowledge will help us wager with confidence!
Vale, Guy.
