Not forgotten
I congratulate the Winning Post on being, to my knowledge, the sole news media to mention (via Backtrack) that last Saturday’s Flemington Newmarket Handicap was 75 years since inaugural Hall of Fame member Bernborough won the race in 1946 with a sensational finish.
I was delighted to be present on both occasions.
Appreciation also to the VRC management and staff for arranging quality seating and catering last Saturday to assist all attendees to have a wonderful day.
Conversely, Flemington’s Bernborough Room has deteriorated over the past 15 years to the status of a storage area. It is hard to understand why the VRC board has not arranged for a copy of The Herald’s unique 1946 photo of Bernborough being “spooked” on returning to scale, together with the two sets of jockey silks in the VRC’s possession, to be displayed either in the new club stand or in a display cabinet within the public Saintly Place stand.
