Wrong target

The Age found another lightweight to pick on for its front page on Emirates Stakes day. Mr Vincent Panuccio was probably a very naughty boy in his youth (which perhaps extended too far into his middle years) but The Age has nothing for us since 1997.

Neither is there anything noted of violence, and to have such a nose so intact at 49 years leads to the inescapable conclusion that this is a man not given to violence. I have heard of him as a gentle giant.

Referred to as an "organised crime figure" but with 20 convictions and only sentenced to four years (without any mention of actual time served) surely this man was a minnow, a minion at worst, and has presumably been clean for the past decade.

Having gained employment with a former Fitzroy footballer and respected publican, this unfortunate man may now be driven away from the straight and narrow of gainful employment because he was so humiliatingly "outed".

In the past, even far more serious convictions than those listed by The Age did not preclude one from being licensed as a bookmaker’s clerk.

Rather than victimise "Big-Hearted Vinnie", The Age would be better occupied setting its hounds to investigate current examples of suspicious behaviour in the betting ring. To the sharp eye, they are not hard to spot.
