Congratulations to all involved with the publication of the Winning Post — it’s a great paper/form guide. Perhaps a way you could improve it would be to add another top journalist to the paper and have Max Presnell write a column. By the way, Max often quotes the Winning Post in his articles.
Re a couple of letters in the March 15 edition, I agree with John Tully that a 16-17 per cent takeout before rounding down is a nice cash cow for the TAB. However, his idea to pay down to fifth place would only dilute the dividends further.
Re Pittsburgh Phil, I always like his thoughts, but question his conclusion: "Who would bet with these impostors? Obviously not me!" Phil, mate, you must punt with these impostors. How could you ask for a $400 bet if you didn’t have an account?
Now, something that has been bothering me for a while. With the NSW TAB we can take fixed-odds multis for a win, but we can’t take multis for a place using the fixed place odds.
After asking the question to customer-service operators on numerous occasions and being given all the excuses like ("computer can’t handle it", etc), a lovely lass in the TAB’s customer-service department the other day put a smile on my face when she answered my question by saying, in a very nice and friendly way, that the TAB wasn’t there to lose. That said, how can we sway the NSW TAB to bet us fixed place multis?
Unlike some of the other writers to Your Say, I can’t claim to have a fantastic percentage punting record and need all the help I can get. However, I know the odds of backing four placegetters are much shorter than backing four winners.
