Blame game
The Age reported on Saturday May 26 that the Geelong synthetic track had "failed to pass muster" and "failed the industry again" when the last six races of the previous day were abandoned.
I wonder if the author was aware that Geelong copped 35mm of rain in the lead-up to the abandonment — near enough to an inch and a half.
Sometimes misfortune is just that — misfortune. The fact that something goes wrong does not necessarily prove that someone, somewhere has been egregiously incompetent.
With the synthetic track in use and Racing Victoria’s newfound willingness to transfer meetings early in the face of dire weather forecasts, I would suggest there are far fewer abandonments in Victoria these days than there were even five years ago.
And that is despite rainfall patterns returning to normal after an extended El Nino dry period.
I’m all for exposing stuff-ups, but not where none exists.
