Autumn to remember

The past few weeks of Group 1 autumn racing have delivered us some memorable moments from two of Australia’s most famous owners (and much loved "battlers"), John Singleton and Simon O’Donnell, who both put their money where their mouth is!

Simon’s racing story is remarkable, and I’m sure Manighar’s treble of Group 1 wins in the Australian Cup, Ranvet and BMW will have helped erase the bitter memory of Bauer’s "short half nose" defeat in the 2008 Melbourne Cup.

Singo’s racing story is legendary, from Strawberry Road’s sensational career, to Belle du Jour’s unbelievable 2000 Slipper win, to Sunday Joy’s AJC Oaks in 2003.

However, I’m sure the marvellous 18th win of the wonderful More Joyous in last Saturday’s Doncaster Mile will live in Singo’s memory forever!

Manighar and More Joyous are trained by two Aussie racing icons, Peter Moody and Gai Waterhouse, and I doubt there’s ever been two more outstanding ambassadors for our sport than these two brilliant and legendary trainers.

Congratulations all round to these owners, trainers and horses for providing such tremendous and lasting memories to add to Australia’s magnificent racing story.
