Night's not right
Despite Adrian Dunn giving us many reasons why the Cox Plate should be run at night, and fairly late at that (30/3), I hope it never happens.
I think it should be realised that with Black Caviar there, any race meeting would be a success.
She is unique and that’s why the success of William Reid Stakes night should no be a catalyst for change.
Why would a Cox Plate run at 10pm be any more successful than a 4pm race? The crowd and turnover would be down, for a start. And is racing to become just a young person’s pastime?
I admit to not liking or betting on Moonee Valley night races. The fields are too small and there is no value.
I know a night Cox Plate meeting would be better than other night meetings, but is it worth the trouble when there don’t appear to be any real benefits?
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
