I really do worry about the common sense of Winning Post readers after casting my “not enough” vote over the piddling $1000 fine for Nick Hall’s belligerent and perilous celebration prior to and well past the post in the Caulfield Cup.
When I cast my “aaghh” vote, “not enough” was running third at 32.1 per cent, behind “about right” at 32.4 and “too much” 33.6.
I wondered just what value Hall’s supporters see in such reckless behaviour ... more reckless, I believe, than anything Damien Oliver did to cop a dubious and costly 20-meeting suspension.
In my view, Hall was clearly unbalanced, albeit briefly, when he thrust his whip into the air in triumph, damn near risking his neck, and those of others.
Somehow most seem to see this as great theatre, but I see it as gross stupidity. Unfortunately, 32 per cent of us will be proved right one day ... too late then for the stewards to realise that they, and 66 per cent of your respondents, got it horribly wrong.
