Stay the course

Australian staying racing is struggling, but we can reverse the trend.
If Victoria doubled the prizemoney for 2800-metre-plus flat races (barring features) and programmed more of them, most of the country’s stayers would probably move to Victoria.
That would raise their numbers immediately, but not their strength.
Raising the grade of stayers would be a slow process, but with the prizemoney incentive, breeders and owners would come to the party, and over time our stocks would rise against the rest of the world, instead of continuing to fall.
