And so we come to the end of a unique spring racing carnival. We can say goodbye to Hame, Hen, Katie, Richo, Mickey, Bru, Gator, Quarters, Sime, Moods, Cesca, Winksie and Matty. (Do these people have real names?)
As for their prowess at tipping winners … even with last-minute betting moves, fitness reports and boosts from trainers, they did not fare any better than the rest of us, at home on our couches.
But we do share a common positive: 20-20 hindsight.
Channel 7 was strongest at the races — some days it was non-stop from two states, leaving little time for the fashion reports.
Channel 10 had one meeting to cover, leaving much more time for the fashionistas.
It was a carnival like no other. Let’s hope we get back to “normal” in 2021.
