Cahill's a cracker

I was disappointed to read a tweet from Richard Callander recently implying that leading Queensland jockey Michael Cahill was an inferior "close finish" jockey compared to Larry Cassidy.

As a Cahill fan I concede he is not, and never has been, a "crash and bash" jockey. However, as I write he is the leading metropolitan rider in Queensland with 41 wins (strike rate 16.4) compared to Cassidy’s 20 wins (9.5) and has a total Queensland record of 64 wins (17.1) compared to Cassidy’s 33 (10.9).

I am certainly not suggesting that Larry Cassidy is anything but a first-class jockey. However, I’m sure Richie would agree that Cahill’s record is pretty good for a bloke hwo is not an overly aggressive whip rider.

Also I’m certain he would have noticed Cahill’s outstanding (and aggressive) ride on Real Surreal at the Gold Coast.

In my opinion Richie’s normally astute judgment is sometimes clouded by his well documented love affair with the Cassidy brothers.
