English wonder
What a pity English jockey Tom Marquand has gone back home for the start of the English season following its winter break. His success in Sydney must encourage other young riders to come out here and test their skills, and pick up a good income.
Tom excelled whilst here. What I liked was his energy, and ability to put a horse into the race. He is sort of a Purton/Rawiller combination, and I was most impressed.
Meanwhile, way out west at Geraldton on February 5, young four-kilo claiming apprentice Madi Derrick rode three winners in succession, something not seen very often.
I wonder whether a Perth trainer was impressed enough to take Derrick on. Four kilos is very handy to take off a horse these days, particularly when way down in the weights.
