Sweet cushion
In this day of constant concerns over how to prepare a racetrack to best suit the racehorse, maybe some of the track managers should take a look at how Traralgon was prepared for Victoria Derby day.
At this meeting I raced a horse who is best suited to tracks with "give"in them so I was initially concerned when the track was given out as a "good 3" before the meeting even started.
On arriving at the course I was pleasantly surprised to find that the track had a very good covering of grass on it, which helped take the hardness out of the track.
I think track managers at other courses should take action now, while there is still a month of growth left, and stop mowing their courses too short just to make them look good. Give the bloke on the mower something else to do.
Congratulations to the Traralgon track manager.
