Mighty Hawks

I attended Fannie Bay racetrack on July 14 and was privileged to see the performance of Hawks Bay winning his seventh race on the track of the past four carnivals.

He lumped 63.5kg to a comprehensive victory in the Chief Minister’s Cup. The effort to achieve victory was fantastic.

The race caller stated that in his 40 years or so of calling Darwin races Hawks Bay is the best he has seen.

Trainer Neil Dyer at the presentation was very humble towards his amazing rising seven-year-old gelding.

There is more to come with the Metric Mile this Saturday, which he won last year with 63kg, then the big one, the Darwin Cup, where he’ll defend the crown he won with 62kg in 2011.

I hope the connections of Into the Sun, who was a late scratching in the Chief Minister’s Cup, were on course to watch this remarkable horse.

One of those owners, Adam Adamczyk, was critical of the Northern Territory handicapper (Your Say 7/7). To him I say let the horses do the talking and let the handicapper do his job.

Winning Post, keep up the good work with the Darwin carnival fields. And finally, congrats to Hawks Bay and Neil Dyer.
