They say the first Tuesday in November is the race that stops the nation, but I think the first Thursday in May would give the Cup a run for its money.
With the sun gods smiling all over Warnambool this year, the race has made a huge comeback in popularity. I have non-racing friends who go to the TAB, turn on the radio or even take time off work to attend.
And 2013 once again didn’t disappoint. Only a small field, but a great race. Five abreast over the final stages, and three of the toughest horses left fighting it out on the line.
I have seen grown men cry with appreciation of both horse and rider. And I have never seen that at the cup. Well done Warrnambool Racing Club, trainers, jockeys, horses and owners. Keep jumping.
