Magnificent Mott
The highlight of last weekend had to be Jamie Mott’s maiden Group 1 win aboard Callsign Mav in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield.
It is a terrific story of perseverance. Mott had been searching for that elusive Group 1 winner since starting his career back in 2003.
I loved his quote post-race. He said: “I always knew it was coming. I’m one for working hard and always believing in what you are doing. Giving up is not an option.”
Funnily enough, Daniel Moor, who like Mott has been riding since 2003, won his first Group 1 in last year’s Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes — on Sierra Sue.
Moor has since added another three Group 1s to the trophy cabinet. Now that he’s got the monkey off his back, hopefully the Group 1 floodgates will open for Mott as well!
