Bring it on
Like many, I had dreamed of a national approach to racing, but it’s gone. So let’s make the most of the State versus State free-for-all that we now have.
Carnivals encroaching on the ends of another divide the horse and jockey talent pool. But on the flip side, more horses and jockeys get a chance to showcase their talents in big races, and maybe progress to an even bigger stage.
Racing NSW and Racing Victoria’s understanding of the vacant sport space between football and cricket season is pleasing. Moving into that warmer, vacant space by pushing carnivals back a fortnight would increase turnover, which increases prizemoney. Increased advertising, patronage, and turnover, therefore prize-money, will help owners.
I expect Victoria to extend their autumn carnival, giving owners of dry trackers an autumn option.
Whilst cooperation would’ve been nice, let’s now make the most of competition.
