Note to Danny, Con and Damo and others — just letting you know that while some of you might be having some time off, I too will be having an extended break.
I love a lash during spring carnival, but for the rest of the year I enjoy a 20-spot on a quaddie each Saturday, and have done so for at least 20 years.
But not anymore.
Racing’s downward spiral into untrustworthiness for me started with seeing some newspaper pics of Royal Mail, a horse I’d backed, months after he was rolled at Caulfield.
It continued with the hessian-bag mix-up carry-on surrounding my bet of the day on Derby day, Howmuchdoyouloveme, who duly compounded halfway up the running.
And it ended with Damo’s admission of betting on a competitor at the Valley.
From this weekend I’ll be removing the apps, closing accounts and shutting down my interest until racing gets its tish together. Nobody will really miss my $20 per week, but I’ll bet I ain’t Robinson Crusoe.
