Letter of the Week

Three strikes

In response to the contribution from Donald Gaskins in last week’s Winning Post I would seek to correct the record as follows:
(I) Damien Oliver was not given permission to ride overweight by RNSW stewards on Road to Rock in the 2010 Doncaster. Oliver retuned to scale overweight and was suspended for 21 days;
(II) The “Pigs might fly” comment by myself was directed at the assertion by Zac Purton that Yankee Rose would have beaten horse Capitalist in the 2016 Golden Slipper if he could have used more whip on the filly.  Blake Shinn hit Capitalist on eight occasions and Yankee Rose, which was beaten by a half-length, was hit a total of 16 times by Zac Purton.
(III) If one is so “blinded” that in 2016 to believe welfare issues can be ignored with impunity, perhaps Mr Gaskins should speak to our greyhound racing cousins.
