Letter of the Week

When will they ever learn?

I’m not one to dwell on the poor runs of the overseas raiders in the Caulfield Cup. Instead I think we should examine some of our supposed expert media tipsters.

Why on earth would you tip an overseas horse (let alone put good money on it) at such short prices, knowing that they have such a poor record when you add up all the horses that have come here?

Put it this way, if it weren’t for a couple of 50/1 Caulfield Cup winners (one that should have been disqualified after knocking half the field over), you would be miles behind backing them.

Much better to stick with proven Aussie horses specifically trained for the day — surely.

The other amazing thing was Allez Wonder. Steve Moran, Deane Lester and co waxed lyrical about her prospects on the basis of a flukey Toorak win, completely forgetting that two weeks ago she struggled to win a plodders’ midweek race at the Valley!

Given the perfect ride by Payne last Saturday she did about as well as she was ever going to do in finishing seventh.

If Bart wasn’t her trainer surely she would have been 200/1 and I’m completely lost as to how expert tipsters fell into her.
