A good friend of mine, Warren Hocking, celebrates his birthday on August 8 (8/8) and, while not a regular punter, he sometimes will back horse eight in race eight.
I suggested that he have such a bet at The Valley on Feehan Stakes day as there was a omen bet for him — Surprise Baby, sired by Shocking, which has long been a nickname of Warren’s.
Sadly none of the omens worked out.
There’s always next time — for the horse and for race eight, horse eight.
