A call from the grave

On a grassy knoll at Keilor on the outskirts of Melbourne is a picturesque cemetery, the last resting place for many Victorians.
The inscription on one of the headstones reads: “I gave it 100%”. It marks the grave of famous Melbourne racecaller Frank O’Brien who was recognised by the Melbourne Racing Club at Caulfield on Boxing Day by have the fourth race, the Frank O’Brien Handicap, named in his honour.
In a field of 12, horse number 4 was Onehundred Percent. For members of the O’Brien family who were present it was an omen straight from heaven. Did it win? Of course it did ... 100%.
