In his terrific article (30/11) Shane Templeton reminisced about the racing comedy show Punter to Punter, which appeared on 3RRR in the 1980s.
I too have fond memories of this program, and at the time it became compulsory listening for my group of friends, many of whom absolutely loathed horse racing, and I. So I guess it transcended many boundaries.
Being the heathen that I am, during this time I even abandoned Three Way Turf Talk for it. Sacrilegous, I know.
Whilst I feel that Mr Templeton captured the essence of this show perfectly, I think he made a glaring omission by not mentioning the wonderful Tracy Harvey in her role as Tammy Whittle. Flippin’ hack, Shane.
Her song about Bisleri (at the time main sponsor of the program) makes me chuckle even to this day.
The team was also known for parodies of songs, and also some originals.
Two that readily spring to mind are "Go Hyperno Go" and "A tribute to James Reyne (Reckless)" by Trevor Marmalade.
Thank you, Shane, for bringing me some happy memories from what was an uneventful decade.
Just for old times’ sake, I might slip on my well worn copy of Punter to Punter Live (aka We’re Not Encouraging You to Gamble, We’re Encouraging You Tibet).
