Time to shine
Just how good a jockey is Jason Maskiell?
“Not as good as his father Stephen,” I hear a few Taswegians say. Fair enough, Stephen rode over 2000 winners.
But after Jason’s treble at the Oaks meeting at Pakenham, most punters would have walked off track thinking, “This kid’s too good to be riding at the provincials.”
He’s followed it up with a double at Moe and a few more for good measure in the days and nights since.
Yes, we’ve seen it before. But with the assistance of some willing trainers and a little luck, Jason may be on the way to fulfilling his potential.
Hopefully come the Melbourne Cup carnival of 2019 Jason will be competing with the big boys at Flemington, not just being a good jockey out in the country.
