The C.S. Hayes Stakes was clearly won by Palentino. The protest by Craig Williams had punters scratching their heads. They were fuming when it was upheld.
That a protest could be upheld for an incident at the 900-metre mark, which had more of an impact on Palentino than on Tivaci, is nothing short of a disgrace.
Craig Williams had 900 metres to recover, which he did and without difficulty ... and even when he passed Palentino in the straight, Palentino was still able to kick back and win with authority.
The stewards were wrong to uphold the protest.
