Birthday query

With the Australian and New Zealand birthday for horses coming up on August 1, what are the other dates for horses’ birthdays. And with Hong Kong being so cosmopolitan, where do they fit into things?
Reply: Horses bred in the northern hemisphere have their birthday on January 1. Hong Kong has different weight allocations for horses depending on their age and which hemisphere they were born in. Australia does, too, hence Adelaide and Highland Reel (three-year-olds to northern time but four-year-olds to southern time) carried 56kg in their Cox Plates. Southern four-year-olds have 57.5 in the Cox Plate, southern three-year-olds 49.5kg.
